Deseret;
a scriptural word meaning honey bee or hive.
Monroe
Peddie started Deseret Hives in 1979 with 25 stands of bees. It was originally
just a way to supplement an income, but as family needs increased, so
did the number of hives and his love for working in the bees.
Monroe
and his wife Katrina together have raised eight children, all who have
contributed to the family business in various ways. From putting together
equipment and cleaning up bee yards, to slinging and bottling the honey.
Some of the children are still working in the business while others have
chosen other careers. Deseret Hives currently works with 600 to 700 hives.
At
Deseret Hives, beekeeping is not just a business, but our way of life,
and we love it! We realized a long time ago that Tupelo Honey is an exceptional
honey and we have been blessed to be able to produce it. Our Tupelo Honey
was harvested from deep within the swamps of the Apalachicola River. There
grows the greatest population of White Tupelo trees in the world. This
is what it takes to produce the highest grade of Tupelo Honey.
Producing
Tupelo Honey is an art, as well as a science, and is many times only as
good as the care that is taken by the beekeeper who produces it, we have
exercised great care in producing this honey for you.
This
is why, "Deseret Hives is the name to know for Tupelo."
